Dereks
wide-ranging expertise includes all aspects of property law with a strong emphasis on
commercial property sales and purchases, landlord and tenant matters, property
development, Housing Associations and corporate support.
He graduated in law from Liverpool University
and took his Law Society Finals at Liverpool Law School. Immediately on qualifying in
October 1973 he became a property partner in a major London firm. From there he joined KJD
in August 1977 as head of the commercial property department, becoming a partner in
January 1979.
Among the many notable KJD transactions in
which Derek has been involved are the sale of the British Steel site at Etruria for the
National Garden Festival, the sale of the site of what is now the Merry Hill Shopping
Centre and its surrounding developments, the purchase of one of the first major London
Docklands warehouse residential developments, the property aspects of the
acquisition/disposal of various plc companies together with numerous complex acquisitions
and disposals of residential developments.
Derek has been closely involved with the Housing
Association movement for many years and is widely recognised as one of the leading experts
in this field.
