The commercial unit provides the full range of commercial services from the preparation of trading agreements and terms to negotiation of joint ventures both in the UK and abroad.

Advice is also provided on all aspects of EU competition law including investigations and formal proceedings. A substantial amount of the unit's expertise in this area of work has been gained from in-house experience at major corporations.

intellectual property
KJD's intellectual property services include advice on confidentiality, protection of rights, licensing and disputes. These services extend to all principal forms of intellectual property including copyright, design right, trade marks and patents.

As well as advising on the legal aspects of intellectual property we also focus on helping clients to develop a commercial strategy for the protection and exploitation of all their intellectual property assets.

information technology
KJD’s information technology services range from assisting with contractual procurement, to advising user groups in their relations with suppliers, through to advising suppliers themselves. Our work in this area straddles both non-contentious and contentious information technology matters.   We have a particular strength in advising on e.commerce issues and have experience of taking High Court proceedings in relation to "cybersquatting"

entertainment
The Unit is involved in advising on royalty participation in respect of a number of Oscar winning films and for a well known literary estate. We also advise on music, video, book publishing and other media agreements, including merchandising rights.

Clients
The Unit advises a number of household name companies in the engineering, ceramics and financial services sectors including several quoted plcs, and a number of household names in the entertainment sector. We advise research bodies including a University and a membership organisation in the private sector. The Unit also advises a number of cutting edge information technology companies, including internet service providers.
